Volunteer Week is 1 – 7th June, so this week we are celebrating our volunteers and the amazing work they do here at Womankind – we could not do what we do without them.

We are very grateful for the time and energy our volunteers give to Womankind, you are all amazing Women!  Here are a few testimonials from Womankind volunteers; and if you are interested in the work we do here and would like to be involved please see our current volunteer vacancies page here and do get in touch .

“When I applied to be a volunteer at Womankind, I had no idea how much of an impact it would have on me. The training was intense, insightful and most importantly thorough – all delivered in a safe environment. Before starting my first shift I was really apprehensive – would I be good enough? Would I be able do it?  3 years on and I’m still learning! Women call us about so many different things going on in their lives – Womankind provide a space where they can talk and be heard, helping them explore their feelings.”

“I think there is no doubt that there is a feeling of doing something worthwhile and the fact that although sometimes we need reminding we are definitely making a difference (no matter how small) to women’s lives.  I like the fact that you are constantly learning and growing as a volunteer and that you’re never “done” as each situation provides as new learning opportunity.    Meeting the other volunteers and getting together with them and the volunteer co-ordinators is always a really helpful and uplifting experience.  Knowing there is a safe environment to talk openly and learn from each other is really beneficial.”

“Being a befriender isn’t all about what you can give your befriendee, they can also have a lot to teach you. My befriendee has given me new perspectives on resilience, determination and compassion. The training was helpful in preparing you for the journey ahead (as much as you can prepare!) but is also a wonderful opportunity to meet a group of likeminded women who will be supporting you along the way and sharing the same challenges! Womankind are always ready to offer support and advice without judgement.”
