The women we support may have faced difficulties such as childhood abuse, trauma, sexual and domestic abuse, and will be experiencing mental ill health and social isolation.
You would start by getting to know each other and getting out and about for a few hours once per week. As the relationship develops you will support and empower her to make changes and develop her confidence in doing everyday things such as getting the bus, joining a class, finding new hobbies, improving her routine, and having some fun!
We provide comprehensive training for this role through four half-day sessions over four weeks. The training covers a range of topics as well as supporting you to become a stronger ‘active listener’. There is also some reading homework to complete between the sessions.
If having read the information you are still interested in volunteering for us, and feel that you would be able to take on the commitment required, then please complete and return the application form AND the monitoring form (also below) and return by e-mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Closing date: Friday 1st October 2021, 2.30pm.
We welcome volunteers with lived experiences of mental health challenges. We do however require you to have had at least one year of stability, and ideally to have received professional help, such as counselling.
