This Volunteers’ Week (1 -7 June) we wanted to say a huge thank you to all of our Womankind volunteers. Our work is possible because of you!

We are so grateful to everyone who gives their time to become a befriender, do shifts on our telephone and webchat helpline, be a volunteer counsellor, and support us with administration and social media. We value your commitment every single day!

If you would like to know what it’s like to volunteer at Womankind, some of our current volunteers have shared their thoughts below:

“Volunteering for Womankind gives me the opportunity to support women by offering them a space where they can be heard and feel understood. I feel very privileged to have this opportunity to engage with women who may otherwise not have an open and non-judgemental space in which to feel understood.”

“The team at Womankind is wonderful. It’s so powerful to be in the midst of women to women kindness – listening and caring and supporting. I’ve learnt a lot and am so glad to be volunteering for them!”

“I started volunteering for Womankind soon after I moved to Bristol in 2019. I was looking for a one-on-one helping volunteering role to hone my support skills and work on becoming a therapist. Since then, I’ve learnt a lot. The training was thorough and helpful, and it taught me more than you typically learn for your average befriending in other roles I’ve had in the past. During my journey, I also managed to complete a 6-month befriending relationship with a service user. This was the journey that taught me the most. With regular supervision, I explored my abilities and emotions within the support role, and truly internalised the impact that a caring and patient presence in someone’s life can have over time. It solidified my desire and passion to help people and encouraged me to keep pursuing my dream of being a therapist through various fields of study.”
